This song was written as an homage to the late Russian skater, Sergei Grinkov who died of a heart attack at a very young age and his young skating partner and wife, Katia Gordeeva. The song traces their love from the early years of skating together, falling in love, and achieving the pinnacle of success to his tragic death, her extreme sadness, and a final "Pas de Deux" as she skates with his memory.
